Southern Cherry Blossoms and Rape Blossoms

When February comes, the banks of the Aonogawa River that flows through Shimogamo Onsen come alive with early-blooming cherry blossoms, and the pink of the cherries, the yellow of the rape blossoms near the river, and the white steam from the hot springs form a beautiful contrast in the warm spring weather days. This is also the season when the Southern Cherry Blossoms and Rape Blossoms Festival is held, featuring rows of stalls and events over the weekend. Thousands of people come to see it every year.
