Lantern Festival

The toro nagashi lantern festivals of Japan involve floating lanterns and offerings down streams or from beaches as a way to pray for the repose of the dead. In a short span of time in 1950s, three small children from Matsuzaki Elementary School died in river accidents, and from the desire of their families that tragedies like this should never happen again, today the children make their own lanterns to pray for safety from disaster.
