Izu Chohachi Art Museum

The Izu Chohachi Art Museum was opened in 1984. It exhibits around fifty works by Irie Chohachi, a plasterer from Matsuzaki who became a famous plaster artisan in the Edo period. Chohachi learned the skills of the Kano School of Japanese painting and the techniques of plastering, creating his own unique field of plaster relief painting, which has been highly praised for its artistic merits.
