Dogashima Fire Festival

The Dogashima Fire Festival, held every July 24, originates from an incident long ago in which local residents repelled pirates who were raiding the area. The locals concealed gunpowder aboard the pirate ships floating out at sea, and then shot burning arrows at them. About 3,000 fireworks are set off in this festival.
